Canada 1961 Five-Cent Coin (Refinery) This is a 1951 Canadian commemorative 5-cent coin, also known as the "Discovery of Nickel" or "Sudbury" nickel. It was issued to mark the 200th anniversary (1751–1951) of the isolation and naming of the element nickel by Swedish chemist Axel Fredrik Cronstedt. Key Details Design: The reverse features a stylized nickel refinery with a tall central smokestack, flanked by low buildings. This design was created by Stephen Trenka. Inscriptions: It includes the legend "NICKEL 1751–1951" along with "CANADA" and "5 CENTS". Composition: This specific commemorative version is made of pure nickel.
