Lot #155: Antique Asian Silver Repousse Dish Bowl

This is a very delicate silver repousse I am no expert but it appears to be silver but very fine and light weight with tiny filigree marks. Have a look at photos, I cannot find a hallmark, so impossible for me to say without an appraisal. The top part of the silver has snapped on one edge see photo for detail. Repoussé is a metalworking technique where a malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. Chasing is then used on the front of the piece to refine the design. This technique has been used for centuries across various cultures to create intricate and decorative metal objects. Asian silver, particularly from India and China, often features elaborate designs incorporating dragons, fish, and floral motifs. These pieces were frequently made for export to Europe and America during the colonial era. The presence of palm trees in the design could indicate a tropical or colonial context.
