This is a large and gorgeous limited edition official print with embossed stamp and hand written edition number (271/3000). the print is approx 15" x 20" and the frame is over 25" by 30". From 1975. (Dated on the back). Tape roll for size reference! This specifically depicts the Chi Rho page of the Book of Kells, which is from the gospel of St. Matthew. It features a collection of animals, insects, snakes and angels, and other figures with symbolic meaning - creating a pagan-Christian artistic fusion - a manifestation of the a newly Christianized Irish society, a pivotal moment in the history of Ireland. The Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript Gospel book from the medieval period, created around 800 AD by Celtic monks. It contains the four Gospels of the New Testament in Latin and is famous for its highly intricate and vibrant illustrations, including elaborate Celtic knotwork, animals, and mythical creatures.
