ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Born in Castleton Ontario, Gertrude Cox moved to Peterborough in 1924, to teach and paint. She studied art extensively and, from 1950 to 1971 was in charge of the Arts Program in Peterborough. During this period she taught art in the Teacher Training Program for the Ontario Department of Education. Cox was also a significant artist in her own right, experimenting with various media, and is best known for her watercolours. Her works were displayed in gallery across Canada. In 1945, she was a founding member of the Peterborough Group of Painters.

This collection of 1960s Danish tourism posters (auction lots 37-42) were discovered rolled in a poster tube in an Ottawa estate.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Ib Antoni (b.1929 d.1973) famous worldwide as ‘The Great Dane’. He designed hundreds of iconic posters, and played a key role in creating the large-scale advertising to sell Denmark and ‘Wonderful Copenhagen’ during the post-war period. The campaign was a huge success, and tourists flocked to Copenhagen. From New York to Monte Carlo, Ib Antoni’s posters were on the streets of capital cities worldwide. Tragically, Antoni died at age 44 in a hotel fire, during the peak of his career. His artwork and posters can be found in major museum collection throughout Europe, and are enthusiastically sought after by MCM collectors.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Goyce Kakegamic is a prominent Canadian painter, printmaker, educator and community leader. Kakegamic was born at the Sandy Lake Indian Reserve, Ontario. He began painting as a teenager, influenced by his Ojibwe brother-in-law Norval Morrisseau and Cree artist Carl Ray. Screenprinting would play a major part in Kakegamic’s career. He learned the craft of screenprinting at the Open Studio in Toronto; inspired by Daphne Odjig’s Indian Prints of Canada. Goyce, and his brothers Joshim and Henry, established the Triple K Cooperative printing company in 1973, based in Red Lake, Ontario. Triple K enabled indigenous artists (including Norval Morrisseau, Saul Williams, Barry and Paddy Peters) to present their work in an unfiltered, independent, and unique way. Triple K Cooperative existed for ten years and became the largest and most successful Indigenous economic development initiative in Northwestern Ontario. Many of the artists went on to have their work exhibited and acquired by prominent art galleries and museums both nationally and globally.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Ronald A. Baird (b.1940, Toronto) trained at the Ontario College of Art. Over his career, Baird has received more than 300 commissions for public installations, including &#34;Spirit Catcher&#34;, created for the 1986 Expo in Vancouver. In 1971 Baird erected the tallest steel sculpture in North America (at 33.5 metres) at the Environment Canada main headquarters, and received the Allied Arts Award from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. In 1978 he was named to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. In 2018, Baird was selected for the &#39;La Biennale di Venezia&#39;, and exhibited that year in the Palazzo Bembo on Venice&#39;s Grand Canal.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Nancy Train Smith (b. Hamilton, Bermuda) is a studio artist living and working in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She received a BA in Art History from Wellesley College in 1968, and completed a diploma program at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in 1977. Her 5th year at the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (1978) was the competition year, and she was one of several winners. As a winner she participated in the 1978 show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston., and received a traveling fellowship. Her focusses are painting, printmaking, ceramics, and custom sculpture installations.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Roy James Hanuse (b.1943) was a Kwakwaka&#39;wakw artist known for working in the traditional style. Hanuse lived at Rivers Inlet (Owikeno) British Columbia, and his interest in his cultural heritage formed while attending school in the 1950s. Roy started working as a full-time artist in 1966, and is largely self-taught.

original 1913 FRENCH FASHION PRINT by 

Pair of scarce 18th century (published Dec. 1st 1790) mezzotint engravings. The original artworks were by William Redmore Bigg, and these prints were engraved by master engraver John Jones. // Note: These were always intended as a pair. I received one framed print, but when removing it from its frame to clean the glass, I discovered the second print behind the first. It was likely preserved there due to the water stain, and small tear (lower left), see images. Condition: the framed print is very good (with paper discolouration to be expected with age), condition of the second is noted above.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: William Redmore Bigg (b.1755 d.1828) specialized in genre scenes, often depicting children and acts of charity. This pair are two of his most famous, the first shows two boys leaving for boarding school, and the second shows the joyous greeting from their family on their return. Due to the popularity of W.R. Bigg&#39;s paintings, he could commission the best engravers to produce prints from his works.

ENGRAVER BIOGRAPHY: John Jones (b.1755 d.1797) was an 18th century British printmaker. John practised both mezzotint and stipple engraving styles. He exhibited with the Incorporated Society of Artists from 1775 to 1791. In 1790 he was appointed principal engraver to the Prince of Wales, and to the Duke of York.

Dempsey Bob, OC (b. 1948) is a Northwest Coast woodcarver, sculptor, and print artist, from British Columbia. He was born in the Tahltan village of Telegraph Creek on the Stikine River, and is of the Wolf clan, descending from the Tahltan and Tlingit First Nations.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Robert Davidson is an internationally renowned Haida artist, master carver, and printmaker known for his pivotal role in the revival of Haida art and culture. Born in Alaska in 1946, he grew up in Haida Gwaii and began carving under his father and grandfather at age 13, later apprenticing with Bill Reid. His work includes totem poles, masks, serigraphs, and jewelry, expanding on traditional Haida design while incorporating contemporary elements, and can be found in major collections worldwide.

His brother Paul is a well-regarded contemporary artist, and Nicholas is famous for his ceramics.

His work focuses on traditional Ojibwa stories and the preservation of Anishinaabe culture. His art is exhibited internationally, and is help in both public and private collections. To help preserve his culture and history, he teaches art to children in his community.

HISTORY: Creil-Montereau produced a fine faïence earthenware, featuring a lead-glaze on a white clay, and originating in the French communities of Creil and Montereau. English entrepreneur, Christopher Potter, introduced the technique of transfer printing from copperplate engravings onto earthenware and porcelain. In 1840 the potteries at Montereau were fully incorporated with the works at Creil, and operated until 1895 as the Faïenceries de Creil-Montereau. The pottery continued into the 20th century under several different names, finally closing in 1955.
