Lot #4: Inuit Soapstone Bird Sculpture

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 0h 32m

This Inuit soapstone carving depicts a resting bird, likely an Arctic waterfowl such as a duck or goose, rendered in a simple yet compelling form. The sculpture is characterized by its smooth, rounded body and upright neck and head, with a sharply pointed beak. The stone itself is a lighter, speckled beige or pale green-brown soapstone, showing natural dark flecks of mineral inclusion that add texture. The only carved details are three incised lines along the side of the body, subtly indicating feathers or the curve of the wing. The piece exhibits the classic Inuit style of embracing the natural shape and texture of the stone while conveying the essence and placid stillness of the subject.
