Retro Blue Mountain Deer Sculpture • Blue Mountain Pottery, Canada, commonly referred to as "BMP" was founded by Jozo Weider, a Czech ski instructor, in the late 1940's in Collingwood, Ontario. • Jozo was constructing the Blue Mountain Ski Resort, and experimented in making pottery from the rich red Georgian Bay clay being removed during construction of the resort. • The figurine features the "reflowing" glaze process, which involved applying two different glazes, one light, one dark, that would run together and create distinct streaks during firing, making no two pieces identical. • This deer was mold cast using the Georgian clay, and dates between 1960's and 1970's. The ' "golden" glaze on this piece is one of their more unusual colours. • In excellent condition, no breaks, cracks. or paint chips.
