Bid with Confidence: Millions of items sold at Maxsold auctions, 14 years in business

MYRON ANGUS, Canadian 1926-2004 - As the label on the back of this painting notes, Angus was handicapped and painted with a brush held between his teeth. Lovely alpine village scene, oil on board, showing a farmer and pair of cows, church and village amid mountains in the distance. In a great carved wood frame. Slight split in surface of board, occasional small marks, see photos. 17.5 x 23 in (painting); 22 x 28 in (frame). *** Myron Angus was born in St. Marys Ontario with a condition known as arthrogryposis, which fuses the joints in the body. Angus was born without the use of his hands or legs. When he was 7 years old, his family visited the CNE in Toronto, where his parents saw the Canadin author Bill Watson autographing his book by holding a pen in his mouth; he had no arms. His parents told Watson Angus’ story and brought him home an autographed book, which inspired Angus to learn to write with a pen in his mouth. Angus graduated high school and got a job painting lettering and logos on door panels of trucks. Ini 1948 he held his first exhibition in Toronto, which was a huge success. In 1959 he bought Gallery & Picture Frame Shop on Yonge St., which he operated until 1966. Angus was able to be financially independent through his art, and he bought a motor home and spent 20 years traveling Canada giving lectures and demonstrations at rehab centres, hospitals, and elsewhere.
