RUTH KILLAM, Canadian 1924-2011 - wife of Geoffrey Massey, Canadian architect (Massey College, UofT). Watercolour entitled “Old Tree,” signed lower left. Exhibition label on verso: 19th Annual B.C. Artists’ Exhibition. Framed. 20 x 13.5 in (sight); 29.5 x 22.5 in (frame). *** Killam was born in Montreal and moved to Vancouver the year following. Killam trained at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art, the Banff School of Art, the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, and the Montreal Art Institute. Killam began exhibiting with the B.C. Society of Artists in 1947, when an exhibition of their work was held at the Vancouver Art Gallery. IN 1955, Killam commissioned architects Arthur Erickson and Geoffrey Massey to design one of their first projects - a simple house with a studio. Before the project’s end, Killam would form a relationship with Massey, future architect of Massey College in the University of Toronto, and marry him. Killam had a fondness for nature and trees and often painted them. A wonderful auction of fine art, photographs and paintings. This consignment auction contains authentic works by important artists.
