Lot #179: 18th Century Polychrome Delftware Charger / Plate with Floral Urn & Bird Motif, Possibly A

Polychrome tin-glazed Delftware charger (decorative plate), likely dating from the 18th century, featuring a bold and expressive hand-painted design. The decoration centers on a stylized urn filled with flowers, flanked by birds, and surrounded by geometric and scroll borders, all rendered in a vibrant polychrome palette of blues, greens, ochres, and red tones. The painting style is confident and highly decorative, consistent with Dutch Delftware production of the 18th century, when polychrome tin-glazed wares were widely produced for both domestic and decorative use. The reverse bears a hand-painted monogram resembling “APK” or “AK.” While not definitively identified, similar marks have been associated in scholarly references with Dutch Delftware makers such as A. Pieter Kocx (active c. 1701–1722), Anthoni Kruisweg, or Albertus Kiell. Any attribution is offered as a possibility only, based on stylistic comparison and known mark usage.
