This appears to be a vintage World War I–era trench watch, a transitional design between pocket watches and early wristwatches, created for practical military use. The watch features a white dial with standard Western (regular) numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and a hinged metal case intended to protect the crystal in active conditions. The numerals are conventional Western numerals (not Arabic script). The engraved case back appears to read: “CAPTAIN E. M. RATHBUN – 92 Batt”, suggesting personal military ownership, likely referencing a battalion designation.
