Antique Canadian Bank Notes: Historical Canadian 25-cent fractional banknotes, also known as "shinplasters". 1 - Dominion of Canada 25-cent note issued on July 2nd, 1923. 1 - Dominion of Canada 25-cent note issued on January 2nd, 1900. Both notes feature the text "TWENTY FIVE CENTS" and "WILL PAY ON DEMAND". 1 - 1900 issue (dated January 2, 1900). 1 - 1923 issue (dated July 2nd, 1923). Fractional currency was used in Canada in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to a shortage of silver coinage.
