This is a 1984 Sudbury, Ontario, Royal Visit Medallion. It commemorates the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to Sudbury in 1984. The medallion replicates the 1951 Canadian 5-cent "Nickel" coin. It was created by local visionary Ted Szilva to help raise funds before the iconic 9-meter-tall "Big Nickel" monument was built. The reverse side (shown) features a nickel refinery with maple leaves and the text "INDUSTRIA ANGLIT" and "SUDBURY". The obverse side (not visible) features King George VI.
