This is a vintage Punkinhead childrens china play set that is over 60 years old. Consists of the following: 4 cups, 4 saucers, 3 plates, platter, serving bowl & lid, teapot & lid, creamer, and sugar bowl & lid. Shows some wear due to age and wear. Punkinhead was created by Charles Thorson, a Canadian cartoonist, for the Eatons department store. Punkinhead was a bear with a distinctive, unruly tuft of blond hair on his head, and was launched during the 1948 Christmas season. Origin story: He was ostracized by other bears for his hair until Santa's parade needed a replacement clown, leading to his big break and becoming a hero by leading the parade (he was Eaton's answer to Rudolph). He was featured heavily in radio, newspaper ads, and on numerous products, from plush toys to clothing and dishes, and he led Eaton's famous Santa Claus Parades in major Canadian cities.
