Lot #78: All That Glitters

Some gleaming treasures here. A pair of PM Craftsman MCM brass bookends, with original felt and decal. The indigenous American figures hold a bow and arrow each, and crouch before a boulder, ready to move. Polished brass finish, excellent condition. PM Craftsman was known for their bookends, which run the gamut from ships and animals to a 1980s pair of the first IBM PC. A gold-finished pressed glass platter, in excellent condition. A pair of leaf dishes, likely dating to the 1940-50s. The weeping gold process involved applying glaze over dots of wax, then firing to create the contrast between shiny and matte surface texture as the wax melted, next applying a coat of gold and firing once more to create the "weeping" effect. The technique commonly used 22K gold, and was employed by a number of different potteries--the lack of a maker's stamp here indicates that these dishes were produced earlier in the history of this technique.
