Antique English harp-lute (also known as a dital harp) with intricate inlaid wood detailing. Damaged as seen in photos. In original case with handwritten label affixed to a leather-bound item, detailing a passenger's information and voyage details: Passenger: E. F. Carter Destination: Quebec Ship: SS "Ocean King" Purpose: Wanted on the voyage. More about this instrument: This instrument was popular in England during the early 19th century, invented and made fashionable by Edward Light around 1800. It is a hybrid instrument, combining features of a harp and a lute, typically featuring both fretted strings and open bass strings. The body is often black lacquered and decorated with gilt transfer designs, as seen with the sunburst rosette and border in the image. In working order, has 11 strings (6 fretted and 5 bass strings).
