A beautiful example of a high quality Victorian sterling silver christening mug .  Standing on bracket feet with chased decoration depicting scrolls, birds and flowers.  

Martin Hall & Co was a Sheffield based silversmith active from 1820’s to 1930’s.  The company wares were showcased at major Victorian exhibitions such as the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London UK. They held a royal warrant and the name was synonymous with Victorian and Edwardian luxury.  This  piece would be an excellent addition to a collection or a special gift for a new baby.

Small Birks Sterling Silver Goblet

Three piece set including a pair of Birks pot bellied rectangular salts with claw feet.  Edged with gadroon and shell decoration.  The cobalt blue glass liners are in very good condition.  There are matching spoons.  The mustard pot is part of the same set with a hinged domed lid, finial and scroll handle. All pieces are dated to 1963 except for the shovel shaped mustard spoon which has an earlier hallmark for London Francis Higgins 1892. These match a salt and pepper set in another lot.

Today’s history lesson: Saint Pierre was a site for settlement by the French in the early 17th century, later abandoned under the Treaty of Utrecht and returned to France in 1763.  The islands became a refuge for Acadian deportees from Nova Scotia and today remains the last vestige of Imperial France within North America.   Measures 22.5 in wide x 35 in tall. In good vintage condition with two small rips at the bottom and light surface wear to frame.
