Lot #31: Marilyn Monroe Ephemera

For the collector, vintage Marilyn Monroe ephemera. The famous Bert Stern photograph of Monroe in a filmy top was shot in 1962, during the so-called Last Sitting. Stern, a fashion, commercial, and portrait photographer, photographed many of the most famous actresses of the day, but was particularly intrigued, possibly somewhat obsessed, by Monroe. Shot at the Bel-Air hotel in Los Angeles, these images have become iconic, not least because she died 6 weeks after the session. Stern later produced the colored silkscreen of the original black and white photo, for inclusion in a spread in Avant Garde magazine, published in 1969. This serigraph bears a Certificate of Authenticity as being produced by Stern himself. Double-matted and framed in simple black wood frame. The October 16, 1972 Newsweek cover and interior page "Taking A New Look at Marilyn Monroe" matted and framed under glass. Large 8-window piece holds the July 16, 1973 Time cover and interior pages containing TIME Essayist Stefan Kanfer's assessment of Norman Mailer's biography of Monroe, matted and framed under glass. Plus two black and white photos of Monroe--one the famous subway grate shot taken during filming of "The Seven Year Itch"--matted and framed under glass; not examined out of frame.
