Three novels by Canadian author and Professor Robertson Davies. Consists of: 1) The Manticore (1972) is the second book in the Deptford Trilogy. It deals with the aftermath of the mysterious death of Percy Boyd "Boy" Staunton retold during a series of conversations between Staunton's son and a Jungian psychoanalyst. The Manticore won the Governor-General's Literary Award in 1972. 2) The Lyre of Orpheus (1988) is the third and final book in the Cornish Trilogy. It centers on the Cornish Foundation's project to complete an unfinished opera by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The plot explores themes of art, life, and the uncovering of long-hidden secrets of the benefactor Francis Cornish. 3) The Cunning Man (1994) is the last novel written by Robertson Davies (1913 - 1995). It is a witty, character-driven memoir of Dr. Jonathan Hullah, a holistic, "cunning" physician in Toronto. Triggered by the mysterious, sudden death of a priest during a Good Friday service, Hullah reflects on his life, friendships, and unconventional medical philosophy.
