Lot #2: Antique Japanese box ca 1910

A lightweight rectangular wooden lidded box of some age having rounded edges and a surface adorned with intricate geometric marquetry patterns, created from woods in varying shades of light beige, tan, and dark brown. The method involves bundling and gluing rods of different colored woods It is is a traditional Japanese Himitsu-bako box featuring Yosegi-zaiku marquetry from the Hakone region of Japan circa 1800 to 1910 These boxes were initially created as souvenirs for hotsprings visitors.
