Vintage Sextan in original box and WWII Bearing Circle Instrument Box: 1 - Sextan, 1994. Label reads: U.S. Naval Observatory Collimation Certificate from 1944 for a sextant, detailing its constant correction values. U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, D.C. Date: September 20, 1944 Instrument Details: Sextant No. 43031, Maker: Husun, Type: E.T.S. 1 - WWII-era U.S. Navy bearing circle, also known as an azimuth circle, used as a nautical navigation tool. It was used to measure magnetic azimuths and bearings of objects relative to a ship's compass. The model shown is likely a Mark I Mod 2 or Mark III, often manufactured by companies like Lionel Corporation or Eastern Specialty Company. It features adjustable peep and far vanes with a prism for viewing the compass bearing. These instruments are now popular collectibles for military and maritime history enthusiasts.
