Lot #485: MCM Paintings of Paris Scenes

These are Mid-Century Modern impasto oil paintings by the artist Kay. They are classic examples of the "Parisian street scene" genre that was popular in the 1950s and 60s for home decor. The signature "Kay" (visible in the bottom corners) is associated with a prolific creator of mid-century decorative art. While often categorized as "starving artist" or "factory" art of that era, Kay’s pieces are well-regarded for their vibrant use of color and texture. The Left Painting shows a narrow alleyway, likely a representation of the Montmartre district in Paris. The Right Painting: A street scene featuring the Moulin Rouge (note the red windmill blades on the left side of the building). Wood framed (no glass) in good condition measuring 10” x 22” each.
