Lot #126: Antique Victorian Eastlake Mantel Clock – Mechanical Strike Clock with Newmarket Provenanc

This elegant late 19th-century Victorian Eastlake mantel clock is a beautifully preserved example of the ornate craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity that defined the golden age of American clockmaking. The richly toned wooden case features intricate carved scrollwork, floral motifs, and architectural detailing, crowned by a decorative crest that immediately captures the eye. The warm wood grain and sculpted design make this clock a true statement piece for a mantel, study, or antique collection. The clock features a classic Roman numeral dial, visible pendulum, and traditional spring-driven mechanical movement, designed to run for generations. Inside the case is a resonant coil gong strike mechanism, producing the deep, warm chime associated with quality Victorian mantel clocks. A particularly special feature is the original retailer label still preserved inside the case, reading: T.C. Watson – Watchmaker & Graduate Optician – Newmarket, Ontario. This label provides a fascinating piece of local history, indicating the clock was originally sold through a Newmarket watchmaker, adding provenance and authenticity rarely retained in clocks of this era. When acquired, the clock was in running condition, and the movement still operates smoothly. The original winding key has since been misplaced, but replacement keys are inexpensive and widely available. This clock represents a wonderful blend of Victorian decorative art, mechanical craftsmanship, and local Ontario history. A beautiful decorative antique and conversation piece for collectors of Victorian décor, mechanical clocks, or historically connected local artifacts. Pickup category timeslot {A}
