This is a Canadian 1942 5-cent coin made of tombac. During World War II, nickel metal was a strategic war resource, so the Royal Canadian Mint switched to using tombac, a type of brass, for its five-cent coins. Key features of the coin include: Material: Tombac (an alloy of copper and zinc). Shape: It has a distinctive 12-sided (dodecagonal) shape. Obverse (Heads): Features the effigy of King George VI facing left. Reverse (Tails): Depicts a beaver standing on a log, with the words "5 CENTS" and "CANADA 1942". There are two variations of this coin minted in 1942: one made of pure nickel, and the other of tombac, a copper-zinc alloy. Coin Information Year: 1942 Country: Canada Denomination: 5 Cents Design: The reverse features a beaver on a rock. This design was introduced in 1937 and remains on the 5-cent coin today. The obverse (not pictured) features a portrait of King George VI. Composition: Due to wartime demand for nickel, the Royal Canadian Mint switched production to a tombac (brass) alloy later in 1942. Nickel Version: Made of 99.9% nickel. These are silver-coloured like a typical nickel. Tombac Version: Made of 88% copper and 12% zinc, giving it a more bronze or yellow-orange appearance. Value The value of the coin depends heavily on its condition and whether it is the nickel or tombac version. Circulated 1942 5-cent coins typically range in value   Uncirculated examples can fetch higher prices,   depending on the grade and composition. The coin in your image appears to be the darker, bronze-coloured tombac version, which was often 12-sided to distinguish it from the 1-cent coin when tarnished, though some earlier 1942 tombac coins retained the round shape.
