Maurius depicting the Rue St. Amable and Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal, Quebec. Length 17" 3. Print of the painting "Governor Douglas Leaving Fort Langley" by George Franklin Arbuckle, which depicts the ceremony held at Fort Langley on November 19, 1858. The event shown is when Governor James Douglas and his party departed from the trading post after the proclamation that established the Colony of British Columbia. Douglas is pictured with three First Nations representatives, likely of the local Kwantlen Nation, in ceremonial dress. The original oil on canvas painting was created in 1957.
