Lot #186: Vintage Sony TR-81 Transistor Radio

The "Micro" King: Released around 1967, this was marketed as one of the world’s smallest "high-performance" radios. Despite being roughly 2 inches wide, it packed 8 transistors inside that tiny chassis. Sony specifically designed this to look like a high-end fashion accessory. It was sold as a "pendant radio" or "medallion radio" to be worn as a statement piece. The satin-lined clamshell box you have is the original presentation case. Finding it with the leather Sony hangtag still attached to the gold-braided cord is a "collector's trifecta."
