Vintage Japanese Bizen ware hidasuki matcha bowl with tomobako

[B4-8835] This is a vintage Japanese Bizen ware matcha bowl (chawan) featuring the hidasuki (fire-cord) technique. 

The striking red iron streak lines are not painted or glazed. Instead, they are created by wrapping rice straw around the light-colored clay body before placing it into the wood-fired kiln. During firing, the alkali elements in the straw react with the high iron content in the unglazed clay to produce these distinctive fire markings.
