According to the St. Louis Art Museum, The &#34;waka taua&#34; (war canoe) demonstrates the elegance of Maori ocean vessels. Maori communities presented small scale models of canoes as gifts to important visitors to Aotearoa during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Capable of carrying up to 100 warriors using paddles or sails, full-scale war canoes were the largest and most important of the various watercraft built by the Maori. The bow, stern, and strakes were carved separately and bound together to form a sleek, efficient sea-going vessel. When not in use, a &#34;waka taua&#34; was unlashed and dismantled, the carved components removed, and the hull protected from the elements in a special structure built near the water’s edge.

Model Size Wooden War Canoes (Waka Taua)  

These four pages were removed from &#34;The Book of Health,&#34; copyrighted in 1885. Published by W.P. Mason of Providence, RI, these books contained information on health and wellness, as well as information on medicinal plants, and were intended as reference books for families and laypeople. The book featured several inserts with hinged flaps, which could be lifted to reveal successively deeper underlying anatomical layers of various parts of the body. This set, of the head, has the final image (in upper left) of a phrenological map showing which areas of the brain were once believed to control certain behaviors and urges. Colors are vivid, in a 4-window matte with incised border, framed under glass.

Framed Antique Flap-book Head

Unique record of an amateur botanist&#39;s work, this multi-volume set of notebooks contains colored pencil drawings of flowering plants and their Latin names, with various inserts of plant lists, and a few pressed flowers. They were once part of the library at the Apostolic School of LaSalette, in Hartford, CT, where missionaries are trained for work around the globe. The artist, E.J. Plattier, was a brother there; the initials M.S. after his name stand for Missionarium Saletiniensis, which means Missionaries of Our Lady of LaSalette. One penciled note indicates 1912 as the creation date. Plain composition notebooks, some wrapped in brown paper, all in good condition with some wear to corners and covers.  We have Volumes I-II and IV-XIV--we&#39;re looking for Vol III.

A pair of brilliantly colored blown glass vases from Azerbaijani artist Essi Zareh. Each piece from this artist is one-of-a kind, with these two being examples of his jack-in-the-pulpit style. Matte finish, with the bold colors created by layering glass. The green vase is impressed E. Zareh on the base; the blue vase is unmarked. Both are in very good condition, no chips.

Pair Essie Zareh Jack in the Pulpit Vases

PLEASE NOTE: This item will NOT be available until 3pm - NO exceptions.  Also it is very long (almost 8 feet!) and heavy.  Bring help and an appropriate vehicle - see measurements!  A super colorful, traditional Tibetan style credenza with two sets of hinged doors offering plenty of storage. This five paneled cabinet (center panel is stationary) is decorated with striking borders filled with flowers set in raised squares with peach, teal, and burgundy backgrounds. The delicate lines of the excellent gesso work add depth and relief to the flowers and squares giving them a carved appearance. Each panel also features a raised shiny ebony geometric pattern over a brilliant fiery red base.  This piece has been intentionally distressed and is not in perfect condition although wear to edges etc is very minor (and frankly, in our opinion, adds to its charm); the crack at far right base interior is definitely reparable and does not affect functionality.

Decorative Tibetan Credenza 

An Indian dowry box with traditional carved and notched hardwood and iron hardware.  Punctuated by four circular raised carvings on top with several iron bands around the box in addition to a metal handle . The box has a metal clasp and two long hinges which open one half of the top face of the box (one metal strap has missing nails).  Dowry is still part of the Indian wedding tradition and a dowry box like this would be used to keep jewelry and special embroidered fabrics. A simple hand-made folk art box, lined in red felt, probably stained pine, embellished with wooden stars (one chipped) and brass accents and holding vintage national and international maps.  And then the puzzle boxes. Two are signed by Richard Rothbard, and trust me, they ARE puzzle boxes!  One a speckled light birch color but filled with dark veins.  Research says it may be spalted maple or box elder burl wood, featuring unique natural spalting patterns caused by fungi. Rothbard has an interesting history and has called his process BOXOLOGY.  Here&#39;s a quote: &#34;The name Boxology describes a process that allows me to explore the endless possibilities that wood working has to offer. I tell stories, take the most beautiful woods and turn them in to complex puzzle boxes and design display shelving and furniture that makes wood exciting in its simplest forms. There is no end to it... and as you will see there are endless beginnings, which I best describe as poetry, psychology and philosophy in wood.&#34;   Also a sweet little monkey box that we did not dare to take apart for fear we&#39;d never get it back together!

Big Lot of Collectible Ashtrays and Lighters

Skilled craftsmanship is on exhibit in this hand-carved wooden table, with delicate brass inlay of flowers, leaves, and brass wire stems. The inlays continue on the scalloped skirt, and on the turned pedestal base and four scrolled legs. A few small areas of wear commensurate with age, but overall inlays are intact. Wood unknown, possibly teak or mahogany. One crack in pedestal, as shown. Ground floor.

Brass Inlay Table

Elephants represent many good attributes in India, including strength, wisdom, good fortune, and fertility. These unique pulls have a rustic, handmade quality, with cast-metal elephants in festival regalia stretching out over a rusty-red rectangular metal base. Each has four holes for screws, with a 4.5&#34; center-to-center spread.

Six Vintage Metal Elephant Drawer Pulls

Larger-scale display jars are fine examples of hand-painted Asian china. The octagonal jar features alternating yellow and blue sides, all heavily decorated with flowers in pots, and animals including bats, birds, butterflies, continued in likewise alternating panels around the mouth. Reign mark inked in red on bottom. Lidded temple jar is covered with irises, peonies, foliage, butterflies on a black ground, in the famille noire colors. The lid has a fixed brass ring lift. Inked NIPPON on bottom. And a contemporary ginger jar, no lid, with blue and white scrolling florals on a cheery yellow ground. Bring box and packing materials.

Large Nippon and Other Jars 

A special piece, this trunk is crafted of wood that has been wrapped in embossed copper on three sides as well as the lid. The petaled design looks a bit like a dragonfly, and is repeated on the top and front panels. Bail pull handles at each side, lion&#39;s paw front feet, and brass hinges. Note that knots are lifting out of the wood in two places--leave as is or glue in.

Wings spread, this bird has just alighted on a rock with waves curling below. Glass eyes, stamped but illegible maker&#39;s mark in cartouche--and it all breaks down into four pieces. Likely zinc alloy, with a bronze finish. Possibly based on Meiji period (1868-1912) Japanese statuary.

Large Bronze-finish Eagle

Pale pink ground is layered with scale-like shapes, each outlined in cream, and filled with colorful block-printed cotton. Narrow block-print bands feature on all four edges. The backing is a subtly striped pink, and all is handquilted. A few spots of what appear to be ink, otherwise very good condition. We recommend professional cleaning.

Two Whiting &#38; Davis Purses and Rosary Holder 

A fine collection of pots from Nemadji Pottery, of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Founded in 1929, and erroneously believed to be produced by indigenous&nbsp;Americans, Nemadji pottery is created from the mud of the Nemadji River. Each piece is unique, due to the process by which the pots were dipped into a vat of water which had various paint colors suspended on the surface. The pot was lowered and then twisted as it was pulled upward to create the patterns. Exteriors are unglazed, while interiors are glazed to be water resistant. These pieces likely were created after 1950, with the exception of the vase to furthest left in the back row in the first image, which is pre-1950. All in excellent condition. Bring box and packing material.

Nemadji Pottery

Lovely and functional, this dark-stained mahogany French provincial dresser has hand-painted detailing and features soft green banners around each of the five drawers as well as the top of the dresser.  Floral garland accents on each drawer and sides, and sprites in soft gray painted ovals are featured on both larger drawers. Original hardware (one escutcheon is loose.) The subtle bombe serpentine curves on drawers and base panel, and the paw feet add to the drama of this piece.

Event Motorcycle Jacket &#38; Accessories

Two pieces from highly collectible Roseville Pottery, both in excellent condition. The vintage Blue Water Lily vase has triangular double handles, and floats creamy water lily blossoms and leaves over soft ciel blue with horizontally incised marks to mimic water. This pattern was introduced in 1943, and the relief markings on the underside, Roseville U.S.A. 77-8&#34;, date it to the mid-late 1940s. The antique brown and cream Donatello bowl is decorated with cherubs alternating with sheltering trees all around, with pale green fluting around the base. This bowl is somewhat unusual in the rim is plain, rather than repeating the fluting on the bottom, as in most examples we&#39;ve seen. The Donatello line was introduced in 1915-6; see Rv inked underglaze marking on bottom, in use from 1910-1927, dating this to the early 1920s. Some crazing, as expected in a piece of this age. Roseville Pottery was founded in Roseville, Ohio, in 1890. In the next couple of decades, it acquired several other potteries, and by the turn of the century had four plants and 325 employees. Highly successful until imported reproductions began to undermine sales, the pottery sold in 1954 and ended production of all Roseville lines.

Roseville Pottery &#34;Water Lily&#34; and &#34;Donatello&#34; Pieces

For the collector of extraordinary conversation pieces, we&#39;ve got you covered.  A silver-coated metal Aladdin&#39;s lamp reveals not a genie but a screw-top opening for a candle or originally oil to light your cigar, as this was originally intended. A winged male cherub forms the handle.  Tape near the spout can be removed.  The decorative finial on spout is missing as the screw shaft extends from the spout. This is where the cigar lighting filament action would occur.  Otherwise in good shape.  Base is a tapered patinated black metal box with silver garland applique.  Lamp was photographed on top of metal tissue box (included!) And a large Victorian glass-topped apothecary balance scale with a white marble base, and two delicately balanced &#34;spoons&#34; for measuring medicines inside.  Two small drawers at base open (missing drawer pulls) but middle unit with knob did not budge for us. We also added a heavy duty swag lamp or plant holder,  and a monster silver finial.

Victorian Apothecary Scale and Aladdin Genie Cigar Lighter

This lot features several vintage brooches bursting with color and spark - an aquamarine starfish, a large &#34;diamond&#34; flower, a bulging bouquet, and two pair of scarab pendants, one of slate- enclosed with a metal band, the other a dung beetle, probably glazed soapstone - both with hieroglyphs inscribed on the underside. A well-made 6.5&#34;L vintage blue rhinestone bracelet with large faceted teardrop stones secured in a silver-tone metal frame with prongs. The row of teardrops is bordered on top and bottom by a strip of lighter blue round rhinestones. Double security with fold-over &#34;box&#34; clasp and a chain. A 6&#34;W x 4&#34; x 2&#34; H glass hinged trinket box with turquoise soldered panels and etched floral glass. A rhinestone tennis bracelet with box clasp, and two silver chains. An then the Afghan necklace in mint condition. . The Rupee on the necklace was representative prior 1925. The Afghan Afghani (AFN), replaced the Afghan rupee in 1925. The Taliban, which took control in 2021, has banned the use of foreign currencies, including the Pakistani rupee, in local transactions, enforcing the use of the Afghani. This item is permitted to use the rupee as decorations because these pieces are considered nomadic art, historical heirlooms, or cultural heritage items rather than currency in circulation, allowing them to bypass modern bans on foreign money. According to our research. this tradition, often associated with Kuchi (nomadic) tribes, uses coins primarily for their metal value (silver) and aesthetic, acting as a display of wealth, a protective amulet, and a reflection of a history of trade along the Silk Road.

Ecoxgear EcoBoulder Party Speaker and Accessories 

Edward Lear, 1804-1888, is best known for his children&#39;s and nonsense poems, including &#34;The Owl and the Pussycat,&#34; and his likewise silly limericks. He was also a self-taught naturalist and artist, and at an early age was selling illustrations for use in natural history books. (Unlike Audubon, Lear drew from life, and spared his subjects!) This talent brought him to the attention of the Earl of Derby, who provided him with residency and funding for some years, and launched his career by introducing him to the world of monied British peers. Lear was the 20th of 21 children, whose parents had a rocky financial existence at times, and suffered from respiratory issues as well as epilepsy, none of which put a damper on his rise. When his poor eyesight made it increasingly difficult to complete his detailed nature drawings, the Earl provided funds and introductions for a move to Italy, where Lear became a landscape painter and began to write his poems. This pair of hand-colored engravings date to 1843, and show a Blue-banded Nondes and a Kuhl&#39;s Coriphilus, both engraved after Lear&#39;s original by William H. Lizars. Somewhat unusually, Lizars engraved these plates on steel rather than copper, and the harder medium allowed for a finer line. They were hand-colored before publication, and here present a lovely pair in double cream mattes, framed under glass in gilt faux bamboo. Excellent condition.
