Lot #46: Antique Last Rites Oak Case With Pieta Statue & Last Supper Print

This antique Catholic Last Rites shadow box was used in homes during the late 1800s and early 1900s for priests to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick (Last Rites) to someone seriously ill or dying. The oak altar set features: a chalkware Pieta statue behind reverse-painted glass that has images of angels and crosses and words that translate to "Blessed be the Holy Name of Jesus"; candle sconce; and, a print of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper under glass that opens to a compartment for storing sacramental items. The box is large, 23 inches high, 13 1/2 inches across and 3 3/8 inches deep not including the candle holders, and was designed to either be hung on a wall or built into a wall. The candle holders are loose and one needs to be fixed so that the candle sits fully upright, and there is some minor surface wear. It is overrall in very good antique condition and makes a nice shrine and Easter gift for a devout Christian. Pickup category timeslot {A}
