Lot #39: Rare Early 1900s Canadian Pacific Railway Co Upper Lakes Steamships Antique Teapot

Look for another CPR item in lot 67! Ultra rare, small sized teapot featuring the Canadian Pacific Railway Co Upper Lakes Steamships. Well used and tea stained. Crack in bottom, missing rattan handle. Still quite the grail for the CPR collector. The shield and beaver on the lid match the logo shape that was in use from 1898 to 1929, with the pointed top sides of the shield, and the beaver tail descending below the top line to the right. I suspect it is from the 1920's as before that it would likely be marked Nippon on the base as opposed to JAPAN. A steamship on one side and a train on the other, with CPR on the lid and a beaver motif, and crossed flags on the spout. The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Upper Lakes steamship service, launched in 1884, operated as a vital link connecting the company’s rail line at Georgian Bay with Port Arthur/Fort William (Thunder Bay). Known for luxurious passenger travel and package freight, iconic Edwardian-era ships like the SS Keewatin and SS Assiniboia defined the fleet, which served as an extension of the transcontinental railway system.
