Matryoshka with 5 Nesting Pieces • Matryoshka dolls, also known as Russian nesting dolls, originated in the late 1890's. • The first set was created in 1890 by Vasily Zwyozdochkin. • The concept was inspired by a Japanese Fukurama doll, which was brought to Russia by Elizaveta Mamontova. • These dolls are made with linden wood, "gold gilt" ' paints, and have been decorated by using a wood burning technique to create the patterns and designs. • This Matryoshka doll set date between 1980 to 2000, as the "wood burning" style was notable during that period. • In excellent condition, no breaks or cracks, or chips.
