Lot #45: Anatolian Ceremonial Standard (Replica)

Bidding starts in 0d 3h 41m

Anatolian Ceremonial Standard (Replica) • This is a replica of an ancient art from the Early Bronze Age 2500-2000 BCE originating from Alacahöyük, Turkey. • These standards are characteristic of the Hattian culture, a pre-Hittite civilization that lived in Anatolia. Known as "sun disks," they were often placed in royal tombs and used in religious ceremonies. • The standard depicts a stag flanked by two bulls, which were considered sacred animals by the Hattians. • The animals are enclosed within a twisted hoop or loop, often interpreted as a symbolic representation of the sun. • I believe this to be a museum reproduction from the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara, and is made from cast iron or steel. • In excellent condition, no breaks or cracks.
