Excellent 12.5" x 4" ITALY Stamped on base. Alvino Bagni (1919 - 2009) was a renowned Italian ceramist who played an important role in the development of modern ceramics. He was born in Lastra a Signa, Italy, in 1919, a region known for its ceramics industry. From a young age, he showed an interest in ceramics. Bagni started his career in ceramics by working in the workshop of Arnaldo Pugi's ceramics factory in Ponte a Signa. After the Second World War, Pugi provided Bagni with financial support to open his own workshop. And so, the story of Ceramiche Bagni began. The fifties and sixties were important years for Bagni, during which he established privileged relationships with several important names in American design and business, including Raymor (N.Y.) and Rosenthal. In 1970, the company moved to a larger, more modern factory, where Bagni surrounded himself with highly-skilled collaborators and artists. By 1980, the factory had as many as 100 employees, and Bagni's company was renowned for its elegant objects and use of innovative techniques, but it finally closed in 1990. However, Bagni wasn't finished yet. In 1993, he started a new venture called Nuove Forme, which continued his work in ceramics until he retired eight years later for health reasons. Alvino Bagni passed away in 2009 at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, passion, and technical skill. Alvino Bagni's career was a fascinating journey that spanned several decades. He was a master ceramist who played a vital role in the development of modern ceramics. Dimensions: 12.5" x 4" Pickup category timeslot {A}
