Lot #128: ALAN MASAOKA Stained Glass Art

Stained glass artist and craftsman Alan Masaoka is a native of San Francisco. He attended Palo Alto Aldersgate United Methodist Church in his youth. He had his first experience with stained glass at a workshop given by the University of California at Berkeley. As he continued his studies, he found that he liked to use sun and sunlight as an art form with stained glass as the medium. He attended and worked at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington, a nationally recognized and highly specialized school with limited entry. Outstanding glass artists from all over the world serve as visiting instructors. Mr. Masaoka has maintained a studio in Carmel Valley, California since the early 1980's. He has designed and constructed stained glass windows which grace residences, churches, and large public buildings throughout Northern California. One of his commissions is the stained glass skylight in the Hayes Renaissance Conference Center in San Jose, California. The Stained Glass Window Committee of Wesley United Methodist Church is delighted to have found such a gifted Sansei artist who has created an outstanding work of art for us.
