Lot #368: Antique German Toy “Anchor Blocks”

This is a vintage Anchor Blocks (Anker-Baukasten) Set No. 5, a world-renowned architectural building toy produced by F. Ad. Richter & Co. in Rudolstadt, Germany. These sets were pioneers in the toy industry, utilizing actual stone-like blocks made of a mixture of quartz sand, chalk, and linseed oil rather than wood. It cites U.S. patents from March 6, 1900, and mentions exhibition medals from Paris (1900) and St. Louis (1904), which helps date this specific box to roughly 1904–1915. There is a single horizontal split in the sliding wood top which is fairly intact due to age, the number and completeness of the contents can’t be guaranteed, but the box is quite full.
