As the 250th commemoration of our founding approaches, this lot of vintage Americana is especially notable. The large sepia lithograph shows a statue of Lincoln sitting on a bench, deep in thought. Sculptor John Gutzon de le Mothe Borglum is best known as the creator of Mt. Rushmore, and as a sometimes combative advocate for his art. He did not live to see Mt. Rushmore completed; his son, Lincoln Borglum, finished the monumental undertaking. This lithograph was printed by the Prang Company, founded by Boston's own Louis Prang, lithographer, engraver, and producer of a huge line of printed items, including greeting cards. In fact, he printed so many he was known as "the father of the American Christmas card." This piece was printed after his death, and the relocation of his factory from Boston to Springfield. Matted in a simple wood frame, 31.5"W X 25.5"H. George Washington and family appear formally posed on this commemorative dinner plate, produced in 1932 on the 200th anniversary of his birth. The Gilbert Stuart portraits of George and Martha Washington, reproduced here and framed in deep gold and black frames, 7.5"W X 8.5"H. Plus, two brass eagles, 7"W. Dimensions: authenticate?
