First Edition. Trade Paperback. Los Angeles: Bowmar / Noble House, 1982. "Nightmare Nina" is a juvenile horror-mystery novel written by George Shea and published in 1982 as part of the Crestwood House "Monsters" or "Galaxy" series. Aimed at reluctant readers and young fans of the "low-budget" horror aesthetic, the book follows the unsettling experiences of a young protagonist who becomes convinced that a neighborhood girl, Nina, is possessed by a malevolent entity or is otherwise "not what she seems." Shea, known for his fast-paced, high-interest literacy builders, crafts a narrative filled with 1980s suburban dread, featuring short chapters and evocative, often eerie black-and-white photo-illustrations that were a hallmark of Crestwood House publications. The story leans into the "urban legend" style of storytelling, building tension through Nina’s strange behavior and the protagonist's increasing isolation as they try to prove her true nature. A nostalgic "cult classic" of 1980s children's horror. Dimensions: 21 cm Pickup category timeslot {A}
