"Angel and the Ape #1" is a copper-age humor and detective comic book published by DC Comics in March 1991. Written by Phil Foglio with interior art by Phil Foglio and Keith Wilson, this debut issue launched a four-part miniseries that updated the quirky 1960s concept for a modern audience. The story follows Angel Beatrix O'Day, a brilliant and tough private investigator, and her partner Sam Simeon, a sophisticated, comic-book-drawing gorilla. In this first chapter, titled "Shaking the Family Tree," the duo is hired to investigate a mysterious kidnapping that leads them into a bizarre world of corporate espionage and high-society secrets. The series is celebrated for its satirical tone, "cartoon-realism" art style, and its playful subversion of traditional hardboiled detective tropes. This miniseries was part of DC’s effort in the early 90s to experiment with different genres and comedic tones outside of their primary superhero titles. A notable "First Issue" from the cult-favorite Phil Foglio era. Dimensions: 26 cm Pickup category timeslot {A}
