Lot #411: Seven "BattleCards" Trading Cards - 1993 Merlin Publishing

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 3m

The 1993 "BattleCards" trading card series is a unique fantasy-themed trading card game published by Merlin Publishing and designed by the legendary Steve Jackson (of Fighting Fantasy and Steve Jackson Games fame). The game is best remembered for its "Scratch and Slay" mechanic, making it a "disposable" card game that actually predated the release of "Magic: The Gathering" by several months. Unlike standard trading cards, BattleCards were designed to be destroyed during play. Each Fighter Card features roughly 25 gold scratch-off dots along the borders. In "Combat", a player scratches her opponent's dots (Head, Arm, Leg, or Body) to find "blood drops" (hits) or blanks (misses). In "The Kill", after finding two wounds, a player can scratch the "Life" dots. If a skull is revealed, the character is dead, and the winner historically claimed the loser's physical card. In "The Purse", Losers had their "Purse" dot scratched to reveal how much gold the winner earned. The Cards feature art by high-caliber fantasy artists like Iain McCaig, Les Edwards, and P.A.J., many of whom provided art for the Fighting Fantasy book series. This lot includes: "Stagcastle Man-at-Arms" (#22); "Krudd & Gorr" (#32); "The Venomess" (#36); "Boris the Brave" (#55); "Soulpod Plant" (#73); "Baagan the Brave" (#82); and "The Demon of Eelsea" (#96). Seven Trading Cards. Dimensions: 9 cm x 6.5 cm Pickup category timeslot {A}
