Obverse: Features the "Fourth Portrait" of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The Queen is depicted facing right, without a crown. Inscribed ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA. Reverse: A portrait of Charles-Michel de Salaberry set against a background featuring a field of maple leaves. To the left is a small, selectively coloured War of 1812 logo (a red-and-white stylized eagle). The inscriptions include CANADA, 25 CENTS, 1812, and DE SALABERRY. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. Specimen-like Finish with Selective "Red" Colour on the Maple Leaf. The 2013 Charles-Michel de Salaberry quarter is a highlight of the "Heroes of 1812" commemorative series. It honors the legendary French-Canadian commander who led the defense of Lower Canada during the Battle of the Châteauguay. This was part of a four-coin series launched to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812. De Salaberry is celebrated for commanding a much smaller force of mostly French-Canadian militiamen (the Voltigeurs Canadiens) and Mohawk warriors to defeat an American army of 4,000, preventing the capture of Montreal. This coin represents the modern Mint's expertise in high-speed selective coloring. While a non-colored version was also issued for circulation, the "Coloured" version was produced in much lower quantities and primarily distributed in collector wraps or through specific bank distributions. Dimensions: Three-ply Nickel-plated Steel. 23.88 mm. 4.4 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
