Obverse: Features the "Fourth Portrait" of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. The Queen is facing right and is shown without a crown. Inscribed ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA. Reverse:Designed by artist Nola McConnan, it depicts an Orca (Killer Whale) breaching the surface of the water against a background of stylized maple leaves. The inscriptions include CANADA, 25 CENTS, and the date 2011. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. The 2011 Orca quarter is a centerpiece of the "Legendary Nature" series, released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada. This coin highlights the majestic killer whale, a symbol of Canada's rich Pacific and Atlantic marine ecosystems. This coin was issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Parks Canada Agency. T The Orca was chosen to represent the "Legendary Nature" of Canada's coastlines. It was released alongside the Peregrine Falcon and the Wood Bison, as part of in the "Legendary Nature" series, to raise awareness for wildlife conservation.
