Obverse: Features the "Third Portrait" of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. This version shows the Queen wearing a crown and a necklace. Inscribed ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA. Reverse: Designed by artist Maria H. Sarkany, it features a group of diverse people holding hands in a circle around a central stylized maple leaf. The inscriptions include CANADA, 25 CENTS, JULY / JUILLET, and the date 1999. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa and Winnipeg. The 1999 "July" quarter is a key part of the Millennium Series, one of the most successful commemorative programs in Royal Canadian Mint history. For this series, the Mint released a unique design for each month of the year, celebrating different aspects of Canadian heritage and the upcoming turn of the century. The "July" design was titled "A Nation of People" (Un peuple en marche). It was chosen to symbolize Canada’s cultural diversity, unity, and the spirit of cooperation that defines the country as it entered the 21st century. Dimensions: Nickel coin. 23.88 mm. 5.05 g.
