Obverse: Features the "Second Portrait" of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, showing the Queen wearing the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" Tiara. Uniquely for this year, the date 2002 is moved to the obverse, appearing to the left of the Queen's neck, while a small "P" composition mark is found below the portrait. The full inscription reads ELIZABETH II D. G. REGINA. 25 CENTS 1952-2002. Reverse: A maple leaf held by celebrating people and the country name below. The full inscription reads CANADA. Struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg. The 2002 Golden Jubilee quarter is a distinct commemorative issue that follows the same unique dual-dating pattern as the dime cataloged above as Lot #449. It stands as the official circulating tribute to the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne.This coin was released to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queen's reign. Because the 2002 date was relocated to the obverse to allow for the Jubilee dates on the reverse, it is considered a "one-year type" coin, highly sought after by collectors of the Queen’s portraits. This was the final year the Machin "Second Portrait" appeared on the quarter before the transition to the Susanna Blunt "Fourth Portrait" in 2003. It is also one of the early years for the multi-ply plated steel composition on the 25-cent denomination. Dimensions: Three-ply Nickel-plated Steel. 23.88 mm. 4.4 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
