The full inscription reads THEODORE ROOSEVELT / NORTH DAKOTA / 2016 / E PLURIBUS UNUM. Obverse: The familiar 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR. This 2016 "Theodore Roosevelt National Park" quarter is the 34th release in the United States Mint’s "America the Beautiful" Quarters program. It celebrates President Roosevelt, a staunch conservationist who once spent years ranching and hunting in the rugged North Dakota badlands depicted on this coin. This park was established to preserve the landscape that inspired Roosevelt’s conservation policies. Theodore Roosevelt arrived in the Dakota Territory in 1883. He credited his time there for his physical and mental toughness, famously stating, "I never would have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota."
