The 2018 "Voyageurs National Park" quarter is the 43rd release in the America the Beautiful Quarters program. It honors the vast water-based park in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border, named for the French-Canadian voyageurs who paddled these interconnected waterways during the fur trade era. Voyageurs park is primarily accessed by boat, and preserves a landscape of lakes and channels that served as a highway for the North West Company and the Hudson's Bay Company in the 18th and 19th centuries. The loon is the provincial bird of Ontario and the state bird of Minnesota, making it a fitting symbol for a park that straddles the international boundary.
