Obverse: The outer ring inscription identifies the issuing body: SCIOTO VALLEY PRESBYTERY COVENANT SYNOD 1776–1976. The inner inscription, in a clean, modern serif, provides the liturgical instruction for the sacrament: THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME. Reverse: Features the iconic Burning Bush image set within a Mandorla (an almond-shaped aureole). The Mandorla is the symbol of both Mary, and the Presbyterian Church. The burning bush is flanked by a cross both above and below. Also, the Cross of Saint Andrew, symbol of the Scottish Church, is visible in the background. The Latin motto of the Scottish Presbyterian Church encircles the image: NEC TAMEN CONSUMEBATUR ("Yet it was not consumed"). This refers to the biblical account in Exodus 3, symbolizing the endurance of the Church under persecution. The 1976 Scioto Valley communion token is a significant piece of American religious numismatics, issued to commemorate the United States Bicentennial while honoring the deep roots of the Presbyterian faith in the Ohio River Valley. Issued during the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations, this token connects the founding of the American republic with the ecclesiastical history of the Scioto Valley Presbytery in Ohio. It serves as a "Covenant" piece, marking two centuries of Presbyterian ministry in the region. The "Burning Bush" has been the primary symbol of the Church of Scotland and its offshoots since the late 17th century. The choice of yellow metal for this issue provides a gold-like appearance, traditionally used for commemorative pieces to denote the "golden anniversary" or significance of the bicentennial. Dimensions: Yellow Metal. 5 g 28 mm Pickup category timeslot {A}
