Obverse: Features the iconic "T" logo—a sans-serif capital T inside a circle—which has served as the MBTA’s visual identity since the 1960s. The outer ring is inscribed with MASSACHUSETTS BAY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY, while the lower portion features the abbreviation · MBTA · flanked by dots. Reverse: Features a stylized depiction of the rear of a subway train or trolley car. Like the obverse, it is encircled by the authority's full name and the · MBTA · abbreviation. The design is notably incuse, meaning the details are pressed into the metal rather than raised above the surface. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) brass token is a modern classic of New England transit history. Widely known by Bostonians as the "T" token, this heavy, small-diameter coin was the primary method for accessing the oldest subway system in North America during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Introduced in 1988 to accommodate fare increases, these tokens were designed to be robust and difficult to counterfeit. They were used across the "T" system—including the Red, Orange, Blue, and Green lines—until the system transitioned to the "CharlieCard" electronic fare system. These tokens were officially demonetized on July 20, 2012. While they no longer hold transit value, they remain a nostalgic symbol of Boston life, often repurposed into jewelry or kept as mementos of the city's "Pre-Charlie" era. Dimensions: Brass. 5 g. 20 mm. Pickup category timeslot {A}
