Lot #518: UK 1922 One Penny Coin - George V - Britannia with Trident

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 1h 8m

Obverse: Features the "Uncrowned Portrait" of King George V facing left, designed by Bertram MacKennal. The King is shown with a high-relief beard and mustache. The inscription reads GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:. ("George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India"). Reverse: Features the classic seated Britannia facing right, wearing a Corinthian helmet. She holds a trident in her left hand, and her right hand rests on a shield bearing the Union Flag. The sea is visible in the background, but unlike the Victorian issues, it lacks the lighthouse and ship. The inscription reads ONE PENNY with the date 1922 in the exergue. The 1922 United Kingdom penny is a notable issue from the middle of King George V’s reign. Struck during a period of post-war economic readjustment, this large bronze coin is a staple of British numismatics, representing the era of the early "Roaring Twenties" in London and across the Empire. Dimensions: Bronze. 30.8 mm. 9.5 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
