Obverse: Features the "Uncrowned Portrait" of King George V facing left, designed by Bertram MacKennal. The King is depicted with a highly detailed beard and mustache. The inscription reads GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITT: OMN: REX F.D. IND: IMP:. IMP: ("George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India"). Reverse: Features the classic seated Britannia facing right, wearing a Corinthian helmet and holding a trident. Her right hand rests on a shield bearing the Union Flag. The sea is visible in the background. The inscription reads ONE PENNY with the date 1919 in the exergue at the bottom. The 1919 United Kingdom penny is one of the most widely recognized coins of the George V era. Struck during the first full year of peace after the Great War, it represents a period of massive industrial output, as the Royal Mint worked to replace worn-out currency and meet the demands of a recovering post-war economy.
