Bidding starts in 0d 1h 44m

Obverse: Features the "Uncrowned Portrait" of King George VI facing left, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget. The inscription reads GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX. Notably, by 1950, the "IND: IMP" (Emperor of India) title had been removed following Indian independence in 1947. Reverse: Features the crowned Royal Cypher (GVI), with the crown "breaking" the cypher. To the sides are the stylized emblems: the Tudor Rose (England), Thistle (Scotland), and Shamrock (Ireland). The inscription reads FID DEF (Defender of the Faith) above, with SIX PENCE and the date 1950 below. This was the second year of the "post-India" legend. The 1950 United Kingdom sixpence is a key date for collectors of the George VI series. It has a significantly lower mintage compared to the mid-1940s or the Elizabeth II era, making it one of the harder years to find in high grade. Because of the lower mintage, many of these coins were heavily used in the post-war economy and are often found with significant wear. In 1950, Britain was still under post-war austerity measures. The sixpence remained a vital denomination, frequently used for small luxury items or as part of a "shilling" in change. Dimensions: Cupro-Nickel (75% Copper, 25% Nickel). 19.3 mm. 2.83 g.
