Lot #531: UK 1950 One Florin Coin - George VI - Two Shillings - Tudor Rose

Starting bidding

$1.00

Time Remaining:

Bidding starts in 0d 0h 30m

Obverse: Features the "Uncrowned Portrait" of King George VI facing left, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget. Following the independence of India, the inscription was updated to GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D:, notably excluding the "IND: IMP" (Emperor of India) title. Reverse: Features a crowned Tudor Rose in the center, flanked by a Thistle (Scotland) and a Shamrock (Ireland). Below the rose are two leeks (Wales). The design, by Cecil Thomas, is a harmonious representation of the four nations. The inscription reads TWO SHILLINGS above and the date 1950 below. The 1950 United Kingdom two-shilling piece, commonly known as a florin, is a key date in the post-war coinage of King George VI. The florin, worth 24 pence or one-tenth of a pound, was a substantial and heavy coin that saw heavy use in daily commerce, especially for larger domestic purchases and in wage packets. Dimensions: Cupro-Nickel (75% Copper, 25% Nickel). 28.5 mm. 11.3 g. Pickup category timeslot {A}
